Deforestation

Choose responsible forestry over deforestation.

It's no surprise that paper comes from trees, but did you know that more than 30% of the trees cut in the United States end up as paper? Pulp and paper production is one of the largest contributors to the loss of endan-gered forests all over the world.

New Leaf Paper maximizes eco-friendly fiber in all of its product lines. In order to reduce the destruction of old growth forests and protect natural resources, the vast majority of fiber for New Leaf Paper products comes from the following environmentally responsible sources:

  • Post-consumer recycled waste (PCW)
  • De-inked recycled (unsold publications and printer waste)
  • FSC certified virgin paper (sustainable forestry; learn more about FSC)

We are also developing product lines using paper made from agricultural byproducts. Including a premium business and resume paper line made of waste from the harvesting of sustainable banana and palm fiber.

What’s the difference between recycled content and post-consumer waste? “Recycled” usually refers to materials leftover from manufacturing and consists of scraps, trimmings and other by-products that were never used in the consumer market. Post-consumer waste, however, is the material you put in the recycling bin at your home and office that would otherwise go to landfill.

New Leaf Paper exceeds EPA guidelines. Recycled paper, as defined by the EPA, is uncoated paper with at least 30% PCW and coated paper with 10%. All New Leaf Paper products surpass the established standards, with some of our products made of 100% PCW. When you choose paper with a high percentage of PCW, you’re not just protecting forests, your keeping waste out of landfill.
